About Us
Tom Blackman founded The Puzzle Seed Company in late 2023, driven by a simple but powerful idea: that the seed trade should be built on trust, care, and long-term relationships — not just transactions.
Although not from a farming background, Tom developed a love for agriculture early on, spending time on friends’ farms and later studying at Brymore School in Somerset, Moulton Agricultural College, and the Royal Agricultural University. He then spent over a decade working hands-on across arable and dairy farms, mainly within the contract farming sector.
Tom’s passion for seed led him to Senova UK, where he worked with major varieties like Costello and Mascani oats, gaining valuable insight into the UK seed industry. That experience inspired him to create a business of his own — one that farmers could genuinely rely on.
Based in Northamptonshire, The Puzzle Seed Company supplies a full range of agricultural seed, alongside services such as soil sampling, conditioners, fertiliser supply, and buy-back contracts. The business works in partnership with trusted suppliers including Dalton Seeds (combinable crops), Germinal (grass and forage), and Thomas Bell (fertiliser products).
The company’s soil sampling service is run in collaboration with a long-time colleague and industry professional who also works with some of the UK’s leading agribusinesses.
In 2025, The Puzzle Seed Company is introducing a new Spelt Wheat buy-back contract — a valuable opportunity for farmers looking to diversify their rotation with a secure end market.
What sets the business apart isn’t just its product range, but the emphasis on personal service and doing things properly. Tom takes pride in offering honest advice, building real relationships with customers, and standing by everything the company supplies.
The business also commits to donating up to 10% of profits to charities that support rural communities — a reflection of its values and the people it serves.
