A Venetian Treasure – The World’s Most Beautiful Beetroot.
Originating from the coastal town of Chioggia near Venice, Barbabietola di Chioggia is a true masterpiece of the heirloom world. While it looks like a humble, pale-red beet on the outside, slicing it open reveals a stunning "bullseye" pattern of alternating candy-pink and snow-white concentric rings.
Each pack contains 300 seeds, offering incredible value for this gourmet variety. Beyond its looks, Chioggia is prized for its exceptionally mild, sweet flavour—it lacks the heavy "earthiness" of traditional red beets, making it the perfect choice for those who think they don't like beetroot. Because it doesn't "bleed" as much as red varieties, it's also much cleaner to prepare in the kitchen.
Why 'Barbabietola di Chioggia' is a garden essential:
-
Spectacular Visuals: The "Candy Cane" stripes make it a favorite for children and professional chefs alike.
-
Superior Sweetness: Naturally higher in sugar with a delicate, crunchy texture.
-
Eat it Raw: To preserve the incredible stripes, slice it paper-thin with a mandoline for salads or carpaccio (the stripes fade to a soft pink when cooked).
-
Vigorous & Early: A fast-growing variety that produces tender roots and delicious, pink-veined leaves that can be eaten like spinach.
