The Year-Round Essential – Crisp, Mild, and Exceptionally Fast.
Spring Onion Gerda is the ultimate choice for gardeners who demand a continuous supply of fresh, crunchy salad onions. This high-quality variety is celebrated for its remarkable speed of growth and its ability to maintain a tender texture even as it matures. Unlike some varieties that can become tough or overly pungent, Gerda stays crisp, succulent, and beautifully mild, making it a staple for everything from fresh summer salads to zesty stir-fries.
Each pack contains 300 seeds, providing plenty for multiple sowings throughout the season. Gerda produces long, elegant white stems that transition into vibrant, dark-green upright foliage. It is particularly valued for its strong root system and upright habit, which keeps the stems clean and makes harvesting a breeze. Whether you are a beginner gardener or a seasoned pro, Gerda is a reliable performer that delivers "market-garden" quality straight to your kitchen.
Why 'Gerda' is a garden essential:
-
Fast Maturing: One of the quickest varieties to reach harvestable size, perfect for filling gaps in the veg patch.
-
Successional Sowing Star: Ideal for sowing every 2–3 weeks, ensuring you have a fresh supply from spring right through to autumn.
-
Mild & Crisp Flavor: Lacks the aggressive "burn" of older varieties, offering a sweet, clean crunch that children and gourmet cooks alike will love.
-
Excellent Disease Resistance: Bred for strong vigor and health, resisting many common soil-born issues that can affect alliums.
