The Homegrown Hero – Bred for Flavour, Texture, and Storage.
Crimson King is a variety with a special heritage, having been carefully selected from crops on a traditional Essex farm. It has been bred to solve the most common "beetroot complaints"—toughness, lack of colour, and woody white rings.
Each pack contains 275 seeds, producing medium-to-large, globe-shaped roots that grow to roughly the size of a tennis ball. The internal quality is exceptional; it features a solid, deep purple-red flesh with a fine, melting texture and absolutely no internal rings (zoning). Because of its thick, protective skin and dense flesh, it is one of the very best varieties for winter storage, keeping your kitchen supplied with fresh beets long after the growing season has ended.
Why 'Crimson King' is a grower’s favourite:
-
Bred in the UK: Selected for performance in British soil and weather conditions.
-
Superior Internal Quality: Solid crimson colour throughout, making it visually stunning for salads and pickling.
-
Winter Storage Champ: Holds its texture and sweetness exceptionally well when stored in clamps or sand.
-
Reliable Size: Consistently produces uniform, tennis-ball-sized roots that are easy to peel and prepare.

Gardener’s Tip: For the best results, lift the roots carefully and leave about 5cm of the stalks attached. This "seals" the beet and prevents it from "bleeding" its beautiful crimson juice during the cooking process.
