The Heavy Hitter – Superior Uniformity and Professional Yields.

Onion Bonus F1 is a powerhouse variety designed for gardeners who want the reliability and uniformity of a professional farm crop. As a high-performing "Spanish" type, Bonus is celebrated for its vigorous growth and impressive yields of perfectly round, globe-shaped bulbs. If you’re looking for a variety that consistently produces medium-to-large onions with a beautiful, shiny bronze-brown skin, this is the one for your plot.

Each pack contains 250 seeds, enough to fill several garden rows with uniform, top-tier bulbs. Beyond its aesthetic perfection, Bonus F1 is prized for its sweet, mild, and less pungent flesh. This makes it incredibly versatile in the kitchen—it’s delicate enough to be used raw in crisp summer salads, yet robust enough to hold its flavor when slow-cooked or roasted.

Why 'Bonus F1' is a garden essential:

  • Exceptional Uniformity: Bred for consistency, you can expect bulbs of a similar size and shape across your entire crop—ideal for the kitchen and the exhibition bench alike.

  • Mild & Versatile Flavor: A "Spanish" style onion with a sweeter, less aggressive bite than traditional pungent varieties.

  • High Tolerance to Downy Mildew: Offers strong natural resistance to common fungal issues, ensuring a healthier, more productive harvest in damp weather.

  • Early Maturing: One of the faster-maturing maincrop varieties, allowing you to harvest your bounty while the late summer sun is still high.

Growing Instructions

  • Variety: Onion Bonus F1 (Hybrid)

  • Pack Size: 250 Seeds

  • Position: Full Sun

  • Sow Indoors: January to April (for larger, exhibition-sized bulbs).

  • Sow Outdoors: March to April.

  • Sowing Depth: 1.5cm (0.5in).

  • Spacing: Thin seedlings to 15–20cm apart for large bulbs.

  • Harvest: August to September.

Gardener’s Tip: To ensure a successful harvest, lift the bulbs once the foliage begins to turn yellow and naturally falls over. Allow them to dry thoroughly in the sun (on a rack or dry soil) for a few days to "cure" the skins before moving them into winter storage.
