The First Taste of Summer – Sweet, Slender, and Exceptionally Early.

Amsterdam Forcing 3 is a time-honoured favourite, specifically bred for its ability to produce a crop faster than almost any other variety. Holding the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit, it is the gold standard for "forcing"—a technique used to encourage early growth by sowing under glass or cloches.

Each pack contains 1000 seeds, providing a bountiful harvest of slim, cylindrical "finger" carrots. These roots are prized for their intense orange colour, smooth skin, and remarkably small core, which results in a tender, melting texture. With a high sugar content, they are exceptionally sweet when eaten fresh from the garden, but they are also robust enough to be frozen for later use.

Why 'Amsterdam Forcing 3' is a must-have:

  • Ultimate Early Cropper: Can be sown as early as February under cover for a late spring harvest.

  • Superior Sweetness: One of the highest-rated varieties in taste tests, perfect for snacking or salads.

  • Small Core: Offers a uniform, tender texture with no woodiness.

  • Container Specialist: Their compact, slender shape makes them ideal for deep pots, window boxes, or raised beds.

Growing Instructions

  • Variety: Amsterdam Forcing 3 (RHS AGM)

  • Pack Size: 1000 Seeds

  • Position: Full Sun; light, stone-free, well-drained soil.

  • Sow Outdoors: March to July (or Feb under cover).

  • Sowing Depth: 1cm - 2cm (0.5 - 0.75in).

  • Spacing: Rows 30cm apart; thin to 2cm for baby carrots.

  • Harvest: May to October.

Gardener’s Tip: To avoid the dreaded Carrot Fly, try to thin your seedlings in the evening when the flies are less active. Better yet, "thin as you eat" by pulling every other carrot as a tender baby vegetable, leaving the rest to reach their full finger-sized potential.
