A Splash of Royal Purple for Your Garden and Plate!

The 'Amethyst' Dwarf French Bean is a show-stopping variety that proves you don’t have to choose between beauty and productivity. These seeds produce compact, bushy plants laden with striking, deep-purple pods that are as delicious as they are decorative.

The 15cm pods are completely stringless with a refined, gourmet flavour and a satisfyingly crisp texture. One of the "magical" traits of Amethyst is its cooking transition: the vibrant purple pods turn a rich dark green when steamed, acting as a natural timer for perfect, tender-crisp results.

Why 'Amethyst' is a Gardener’s Favourite:

  • High Visibility Harvesting: The bright purple pods stand out against the green foliage, making them incredibly easy to spot and pick compared to green varieties.

  • Space-Saving & Sturdy: Reaching a height of approx. 45cm, these plants are self-supporting and don't require poles or netting—ideal for windy sites or small gardens.

  • Ornamental Edible: With lovely mauve flowers and jewel-toned pods, Amethyst is pretty enough to grow in flower borders or patio containers.

  • Prolific Cropper: A heavy-yielding variety that provides a continuous harvest throughout the summer if picked regularly.

Growing Instructions

  • Variety: Amethyst (Dwarf/Bush)

  • Position: Full Sun

  • Sow Indoors: April to May (for an early start).

  • Sow Outdoors: May to June (once the soil is warm and frost risk has passed).

  • Sowing Depth: 5cm (2in).

  • Spacing: 20cm (8in) between plants; 45cm (18in) between rows.

  • Harvest: July to September.

Top Tip: For a summer-long supply, use "succession sowing"—plant a small batch of seeds every 2-3 weeks rather than all at once.
