Endive En Cornet de Bordeaux

A very fine old French endive variety that is exceptionally hardy and provides a steady supply of cut-and-come-again leaves through winter. It performs especially well when grown under cover in a cold tunnel or frame.

How to grow

For protected sowings, sow into pots, trays or modules of seed compost at 15–20°C and lightly cover with vermiculite or compost. Alternatively, sow thinly outdoors from March, 1.5cm (½in) deep in rows 30cm (12in) apart. Thin or plant out to 30cm (12in) between plants and rows.

Early and late sowings are more reliable under cloches or in a polytunnel. This endive is a good source of vitamins K and A, magnesium and phosphorus, as well as dietary fibre.
