Broad bulky heads with dark green, very serrated outer leaves and creamy white hearts. Cropping throughout the year. Native of the East Indies, growing up to 1 metre high with entirely smooth leaves and hollow stems. Has beautiful blue flowers.

Chicories and endives are the most useful and varied range of salad plants, providing salad leaf all year. Many are extremely decorative — large leaved endives are also delicious cooked lightly in butter.

Where to Sow

Sow outdoors direct into the soil in shallow rows.
