Lettuce Seeds - Amaze - The Red 'Little Gem' (300 Seeds)

Amaze is a stunning specialty variety that brings a sophisticated splash of color to the classic 'Little Gem' experience. This compact, semi-cos lettuce produces dense, upright heads featuring glossy, deep maroon-red external leaves. When sliced open, it reveals a contrasting, vibrant yellow-gold interior that is as beautiful as it is delicious.

True to its lineage, Amaze offers a soft, buttery texture and a sweet, delicate flavor. It is a slow-to-bolt variety, making it a reliable performer even as summer temperatures rise. Its small footprint makes it an exceptional choice for gardeners with limited space, patio containers, or raised beds.

Sowing & Growing Instructions

Sowing Indoors (Under Glass):

  • When: Late February to March.

  • Method: Sow seeds into trays of seed-sowing compost at a temperature of 15–20°C. Lightly cover with a sprinkling of vermiculite or compost. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, prick out into modules and grow on until ready to harden off.

  • Planting Out: April to August, spaced 30cm apart.

Sowing Outdoors:

  • When: April to July.

  • Method: Sow thinly in shallow drills 1.5cm deep, with 30cm between rows. Thin seedlings to 30cm apart once established.

Top Tip: During particularly hot weather, place the seed packet in the fridge overnight before sowing. This cooling period triggers the seeds to break dormancy more effectively, ensuring high germination rates.
